Blessings

In Hawaii it is most important that everything is done with pono, integrity and rightness, and to invoke the blessings of the Almighty for protection from harm, malumalu Ke Akua, whether from curses, storms, fires, malevolent spirits or persons; for good health, `olakino maika`i, for peace and unity, ho`olokahi.

These and other blessings are invoked at the beginnings and completions of construction, grand openings, the openings of festivals, trade shows, retail outlets, medical offices, churches; any and all institutions; blessing of a home, marriage or child; plus the blessing of any property or building with unusual disturbances; or any celebration, birthday, anniversary. I have been invited to do these blessings on the mainland as well.

Please discuss with me any special needs and concerns. Scroll down for information for Business blessings, Home and personal blessings.

To bless your business, home, and family
Business Blessings
It is helpful for me to receive a copy of your mission statement and vision if any; also the company’s core values. Please email me a list of company officials and titles and names of vendors and dignitaries who will be attending. Also important: let me know of special concerns such as mysterious disturbances, discord, health issues, etc.

For all blessings, you provide 3 ti-leaves for me. I will bring the blessing bowl and the purification water, pikai.

Groundbreakings and Completion of Construction.
• Groundbreakings - to remove any curses, malevolent spirits; seek protection of all workers and people on the property from harm; for good weather.

• Completions - an informal ceremony to give thanksgivings, to celebrate with the owners, key management, architect, engineers, construction workers before a party.

Grand Openings.
At the day and time of the blessing it is customary to provide maile leis for any dignitaries, the CEO, and the kahu (minister) and to drape two at the front entrance to be cut at the completion of the blessing. I will bring the blessing bowl and pikai purification water for the blessing.

• Suggested Honorarium
Suggested commercial blessing honoraria can range anywhere from $200 through $600 or more depending on the type of ceremony or program, special spirit disturbances, health issues and concerns, size of the property to be blessed, number of employees, transportation provided, travel distance, etc. For a simple opening at the store entrance in the city, $250-$300 is usual. For a Walmart or Costco sized store, from corner to corner, back rooms and main aisles and ceremony at or inside front entrance: $400-$800 plus. Please inquire if you have questions and special requirements.

• For a formal program
It is customary to have an emcee welcome all, introduce all guests, then to turn it over to the President/CEO or the General Manager who may provide a short history, invite best wishes by any including the architect and vendors (good to prepare them beforehand), government representatives, and to thank all for coming, and then to introduce me, “I call on Kahu Ron Ching for the blessing.”

• My blessing is an introduction to all present in English and Hawaiian explaining the various aspects of the blessing, and concludes with a chant (`oli) in Hawaiian with the ti-leaves and pikai, the water of cleansing.
